The truth that sets us free!
For me, I have seen that literature is a really valuable tool that teaches me the ins and outs of food addiction, along with God's will and purpose for my life (in God's Word).
Recovery from addiction is clearly noted in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. I am not an alcoholic, but my relationship with sugar, flour and wheat is the same as an alcoholic with his drug of choice (alcohol).
Kay Shepherd's book, Food Addiction: The Body Knows, has helped me to understand the intricacies of food addiction, from a scientific standpoint. I found her book a year after I had been abstinent from sugar and flour. It was a great confirmation that I was on the right road.
Daily meditation readings help me, too, on a daily basis. I especially appreciate the Little Black Book, Twenty-four Hours a Day from AA and I have read the Little White Book "For Today" from OA.
Beyond literature about addiction, my Bible teaches me what God wants for me. Personally, I like my Life Recovery Bible. It is the New Living Translation. I like that it refers to the addict and the l2-step way of life.
When I first got abstinent, I was told to read a page of the Big Book, starting with the Doctor's Opinion, the page on acceptance and the promises. Then the daily meditation reading from The Little Black Book of AA, Twenty-four Hours a Day.
Today, I read from the Bible and The Twelve Steps for Christians, doing a daily reading and writing on AWOLforchristians@yahoogroups.com. I occasionally read from The Language of Letting Go, by Melody Beatty for my co-dependency issues, but don't commit to that on a daily basis.
